tendersglobal.net

One Hundred Miles (OHM) is dedicated to protecting and preserving Georgia’s 100-mile coast through advocacy, education, and citizen engagement. We make progress toward our mission because we are inclusive of all friends and residents of Georgia’s coast. We emphasize collaboration with conventional and unconventional conservation allies and celebrate our coast and the stories of the people working to protect it. OHM is a trusted resource and conservation leader across our coast and throughout the country.

The South Coast Advocate (SCA) will advocate for environmental conservation policies for the coast by organizing community members to advance and/or change public policy and resource allocation decisions made by governments that impact the South Coast. The SCA will ensure local decisions accommodate coastal population growth and address sea level rise while protecting wildlife, people, and culture throughout the South Coast counties (Glynn, Camden, Brantley, and other counties as needed.)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop initiatives and campaigns to help citizens on the South Coast to engage in planning and policy decisions that effectively address development and coastal hazards that can harm the environment and community health.
  • Attend city and county meetings (usually in the evenings) to stay updated on local government decisions affecting the natural and built environment in the South Coast counties.
  • Analyze how city and county policy changes and development may negatively affect the South Coast and create a campaign that may remove or lessen those impacts.
  • Support community-led initiatives and develop new partnerships with businesses, corporations, other organizations, and neighborhood groups to advocate for growth management policies and practices that protect coastal people and wildlife.
  • Work with media outlets and social networks to raise awareness about OHM projects within the South Coast.
  • As needed, assisting the CEO/President and Vice President of Coastal Conservation with lobbying efforts and federal campaigns.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and or three years of experience in planning, organizing, or conservation advocacy
