POSITION SUMMARY:
The Judy Genshaft Honors College seeks a dedicated and service-oriented individual for the role of Space Security Specialist (SSS). Principal responsibilities include crime prevention, building safety and order, and other non-law enforcement duties in the College’s building on the Tampa campus. A non-sworn employee, this person will provide vital support to University Police Department officers. The SSS serves as a crucial link between the College and the USF Police Department, enhancing support for
faculty, students, and staff. This regularly appointed USF employee reports to the College’s Facilities and Events Manager. Anticipated working hours are noon to 8 p.m., when the building closes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Security: Maintain a visible presence at the front entry doors, proactively address any security risks, secure the facility at building closing time, monitor doors and locks for malfunctions or irregularities
Patrol and Policy Enforcement: Conduct safety checks of spaces within the Judy Genshaft Honors College to enforce policies promoting an orderly learning environment. De-escalate occupant issues and promptly respond to reported security issues, and generally ensure a safe and productive atmosphere.
Recruitment and Training: Assist college staff with the recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of a team of Student Ambassadors. Ensure team members are well-prepared to uphold safety and security standards during operational hours.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
High School diploma.
One year of security or related experience; may be replaced by equivalent college coursework or vocational/technical training.
CPR and AED certified.
Must pass Level 2 background check.
Must meet Chapter 493 Florida Statutes requirements for security officers and hold necessary licenses or certifications.
PREFERRED:
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Law enforcement experience.
Prior experience in security or customer service.
Experience in USF-specific systems used for building management (e.g. Excel, Microsoft Office,
25Live, etc.
