Job Description

The Arizona State University School of Social Work in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions is seeking a Specialist. Under general supervision, the Specialist will provide expertise in skills and service related to the faculty associate and academic associate support and course delivery in the School of Social Work, in accordance with established goals and assignments.

This position is based at the Phoenix Downtown campus and on-site work will be required.

Essential Duties

The Specialist will complete the following essential duties, in addition to other duties, as assigned:

  • Support the work of the Associate Director of Student Services & Programs, the Assistant Director – Academic Services, and the Online Program Coordinator
  • Support the creation and update of the course schedule
  • Assist in the support and tracking of course instructors, including interest surveys and evaluations
  • Develop and facilitate faculty workshops and seminars
  • Support the connection and preparation of course instructors and instructional teams
  • Serve as liaison to the College Business Operations Team (BOS)/HR to support the contracting process with course instructors
  • Consult with staff and faculty to provide technical advice, problem solving assistance, answers to questions and program goals
  • Resolve problems through written or verbal correspondence
  • Assist in developing reports
  • Coordinate the system for identifying and hiring teaching aides
  • Manage the adjunct faculty recruitment pool process                                                       
  • May assist in other duties related to the School of Social Work programs

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Seven (7) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic project management.
  • Experience in creating and managing spreadsheets, tracking systems, and other management information systems.
  • Experience in attending to detail to ensure accuracy to contribute to overall precision and quality of processes and projects.
  • Experience in designing presentation materials.
  • Experience in designing marketing materials.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Evidence of effective communication.
  • Experience with technology, including Microsoft Suite, Canvas, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, Google spreadsheets.
  • Evidence in ASU experience or experience working in higher education.
  • Experience with course scheduling.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
