NHS Fife has an opportunity for an enthusiastic clinical pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to patients across our Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) and in-patient Mental Health services. The post will allow you an opportunity to develop and build on your clinical knowledge, experience and expertise in Mental Health. You will gain experience in General Adult Psychiatry (GAP), Older Adult Psychiatry (OAP), Rehabilitation, Forensic, Learning Disability, ADHD and Intensive Care Psychiatry patients through a mix of in-patient and out-patient work as part of the integrated pharmacy service.

The work will involve ensuring the safe, effective and economic use of medicines across care boundaries, by the delivery of high quality pharmaceutical care so patients get the best possible outcomes from their medicines, avoiding harm and waste. You will be a team worker but have the ability to act independently. You will function as a key member of the NHS Fife Mental Health Service. These would be ideal posts for pharmacists who would like to specialise in a highly rewarding clinical area and split posts with other specialties could be considered.

You will also be involved in education and training of other professionals and facilitating the implementation of local and national guidelines. You will be involved in local multidisciplinary patient safety initiatives. You should have a sound clinical knowledge and a commitment to high standards of pharmaceutical care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. You will be a registered pharmacist with a background in hospital, primary care or community pharmacy. Experience of working in more than one of these areas would be advantageous. It would be desirable but not essential to have previous experience of working within a Mental Health environment.

A relevant post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience is desirable. An independent prescribing qualification or willingness to become a prescriber within an agreed timescale, is essential. You are likely to be based within one geographical locality, although applicants should be flexible and be willing to have occasional travel throughout Fife.

The NHS Fife Pharmacy Service is undergoing an ambitious programme of transformation and integration. It serves a population of approximately 380,000 people, and is provided by an integrated team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team work across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.
