Job Summary

The Learning & Development (L&D) team of the Global Human Resources Division of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an experienced and innovative to join our team. Reporting to the Associate Director of Learning & Development, this position will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive and engaging learning programs that support the professional development of our staff. This is a one-year fixed term position and will be based in a location compatible with US Eastern time zone working hours.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating impactful learning experiences and fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the Associate Director of L&D, Chief People & Culture Officer, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, leadership, and other key stakeholders to design, develop, and deliver effective and engaging learning programs that align with the organization’s strategic plan, goals, and values.
  2. Utilize instructional design principles and innovative learning techniques to create high-quality training materials, including in person trainings, e-learning modules, presentations, and multimedia resources.
  3. Facilitate learning experiences, including one-off trainings and cohort-based programs for a variety of groups from across the organization.
  4. Conduct thorough requirements gathering and gap analyses to identify specific training requirements for staff at various levels within the organization.
  5. Partner with internal subject matter experts to ensure that training content is accurate, up-to-date, and relevant to the organization’s objectives and initiatives.
  6. Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, surveys, and feedback, including reports from the organization’s LMS, making necessary adjustments to improve learning outcomes.
  7. Maintain and update training materials and resources in collaboration with the Associate Director of L&D and other relevant staff.
  8. Provide guidance and support to staff and managers on learning initiatives and training resources.
  9. Contribute to the development and implementation of learning strategies that promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development, including utilizing the LMS capabilities.
  10. Create job aids, document processes, and develop other materials to help the L&D team and other stakeholders in advancing long-term L&D needs and strategy.
  11. Undertake additional responsibilities as required in support of the Associate Director of L&D and the broader learning initiatives of HRW; and
  12. Perform other tasks as may be required

Expected Deliverables

Although the requirements gathering and gap analyses will provide valuable information on what the organization needs, some expected deliverables include:

  • A series of 90 minute to 2-hour modules for supervisors on topics related to management and leadership, including leading change, strategic planning, developing staff, and others.
  • A series of 90 minute to 2-hour modules for non-managerial staff on skill-building topics, including presentation skills, project management, effective negotiation, and more.
  • Deep-dive sessions on essential areas like financial literacy, wellbeing, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Asynchronous modules and microlessons on a variety of topics, created on Articulate 360 and housed in Cornerstone.

We welcome candidates who can effectively perform the essential functions of this role, even if they do not meet all of our desired qualifications – particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds in this sector.

Education: A level of education that when combined with your professional experience will adequately show you have the capability to contribute meaningfully to HRW’s learning and development efforts. Candidates with demonstrated education and training in instructional design, professional development, leadership development, adult education, and facilitation strongly preferred.

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience in designing and implementing instructional programs, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
