Position Summary
Position is responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering clinical services aimed at specific populations. Completes needs assessment / review of identified populations and develops standards of care and outcome criteria. Delivers occupational therapy treatment programs to children / youth / adults referred by the physician, community partners, or as identified by other sources. Position is also responsible for growth of clinical programs in area of expertise. May also include delivering guest lectures or teaching, or participating in research as assigned.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Delivers evidence based occupational therapy clinical services, including any follow-up services to assure successful outcomes and that aftercare is coordinated with other health care practitioners, families, caregiver and or / community partners. Assures services are delivered in a safe and effective manner. Approximately 5-tenclinical visits per day.
  • Completes all aspects of documentation including clinical, billing and all other assigned documentation. Records evaluations, goals, treatment plan, client response and progressive change in the client’s record according to established protocols and adheres to all departmental / regulatory policies.
  • Completes population based needs assessments and analyzes results / reviews relevant literature in order to develop and implement high quality and relevant clinical programs that are aligned with strategic priorities. Develops, sustains and grows referral base. Works to expand practice that links with research and education. Assures the use of recognized outcome measures to support practice. Develops and implements clinical standards of care and practice guidelines.
  • Orients, instructs and directs occupational therapy assistant and occupational therapy students in patient – related activities as assigned. May supervise students in experiential learning clinics in specialty area.
  • Participates in classroom instruction, research and / or promotion of clinical services as needed.
  • Serves on committees or boards (internal / external) as assigned or requested.

Working Conditions

Ability to lift 10 pounds from floor to waist and carry 10 pounds for short distances, push and pull occasionally with moderate force.

Coordinate hand movements to write, type, manipulate folders and client body parts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Five to ten years of progressive clinical experience with four being in identified practice area.
  • Specialty certification, such as CHT, ATP, CDRS, AOTA / APTA board / specialty certifications or a specialized area, such as primary care, community, population health.
  • Expected with reasonable accommodations to: apply principles of scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions in written oral, diagrammatic or schedule form, including technical instructions.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge & application of safety issues particularly as applied to body mechanics.
  • Coordinate hand movements to write, type, manipulate folders and client body parts.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interview, counsel or advise clients and their families and able to perform high level problem solving, negotiation and executive functions.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and effectively manage varied caseload of patients and use judgment regarding discharge planning, timing of services.
  • Ability to locate / use evidence in practice and be dedicated to continual improvement.
  • Ability to locate / utilize various outcome measures based on population need and be able to interpret / utilize those measures to improve practice area.
  • Understand program development processes and be able to effectively implement / analyze results.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Five years of clinical experience in an identified practice area.
  • Current licensure to practice as an occupational therapist in the State of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location.
  • Basic Life Support Certification, Level C, or obtains certification within one month of employment. Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.

Salary Range
$73,400.00 – $113,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
