Job Description

This role is focused on supporting young people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background (CALD) who are victims and survivors of Family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV). This role provides trauma informed, culturally competent case management support to young people within Liverpool LGA who are experiencing FDSV and assist them to escape and recover from abuse.

The main aim of this role is to build knowledge and understanding amongst young people about safe, respectful and healthy relationship and to reduce shame and stigma associated with the experience of sexual violence victimisation amongst young people.

This position will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to establish a collaborative case management service providing support to the Clients experiencing and/or escaping FDSV and help their engagement with support services to reduce repeat occurrences of FDSV and provide a safe and supportive environment when participating in case management.

You Responsibilities:

  • Delivering high quality and culturally appropriate case management, active community development and focused on needs-based services to the young people who are victim of DFSV.
  • Using the current case management model under the project, provide case management to high needs clients with multiple issues, this includes needs assessment, development and delivery of case management plan
  • Deliver a holistic service through the documentation of case plans that support young people who are victims and survivors of DFSV using a strength-based approach with the focus to increase the clients capacity and encourage independence.
  • Develop case plans based on evidence of risk and needs assessment of their situation.
  • Provide culturally sensitive crisis support and information to assist with the effective engagement of clients
  • Case co-ordination and/or case tracking to ensure seamless client service provision, including referral on to other services.
  • Maintain high levels of confidentiality and sensitivity is applied at each interaction when supporting Clients. Ensure all clients contact information is entered into the appropriate internal database.
  • Contribute to service sector development initiatives to ensure that available services are effectively co-ordinate and contribute to the strategic, whole of government objective of reducing domestic and family violence.(includes participation in local service planning and service system meetings e.g. Domestic Violence Committee, Domestic Violence Network
  • Building and improving Community understanding of and response to DFSV.

Selection Criteria

  • Formal qualifications in community services or Social Work or a related field.
  • Experience in the delivery of high quality casework and crisis counseling assistance and brokerage support to young people, women and children who are experiencing and/or escaping DFSV.
  • A sound knowledge and familiarization of DFSV.
  • Demonstrate strong cultural awareness, understanding of diversity and contemporary issues within different Communities.
  • High level interpersonal skills and demonstrated abilities in building high trust relationships with Clients.
  • Ability to establish objectives and self – manage conflicting work priorities to ensure efficient and effective outcomes are achieved to a high standard.
  • Well-developed negotiation, advocacy, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Strong administrative, organisational, time management and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the barriers for people who are culturally and linguistically disadvantaged.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills in English, computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency in a community language relevant to the South West Sydney area is highly desirable.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Successful completion of Australian Police Checks and other compliance checks as required.
