About this position
The IDB is looking for a native-English speechwriter (or native-English-level equivalent), preferably with press and media relations experience, to join our team in Washington DC. Preference will be given to any candidates who are also fluent in Spanish or Portuguese.
You will work on the Executive Communications team, which supports the communications of the Office of the President, producing speeches, talking points, op-eds, background information for interviews, and developing cross-cutting messages to help position the work of the IDB Group. The team maintains close coordination with the Communications Division to ensure proper alignment and coordination of all communication efforts with our country offices, operational sectors, corporate functions, IDB Lab and IDB Invest.
What you’ll do:
1. Write & Edit Speeches:
- Draft speeches and talking points, briefings, op-eds, and other communications materials for the bank’s president and other senior ranking executives.
- Conduct research using internal and external sources to produce content for a variety of products, ranging from social media posts to letters and executive summaries.
- Gather, develop, and check the accuracy of information with thorough research and by interviewing subject matter specialists, program officials, and others to translate technical subjects into easily accessible speeches and narratives.
- Write and edit articles, press releases, fact sheets, video scripts, blogs, web content, and other publications, translating complicated concepts and ideas into clear language.
- May assist executive with speech delivery preparations.
2.Press Relations:
- Support the press team in developing and maintaining relationships with journalists, media houses, and influencers in both English and Spanish/Portuguese speaking territories.
- Support the team with media inquiries, arranging interviews, coordinating press conferences.
- Support the monitoring of media coverage of the organization, identifying opportunities and challenges.
3.Content Development:
- Collaborate with the communications team to develop press releases, statements, and other media materials in English and Spanish/Portuguese.
- Coordinate with other speechwriters and other content creators to ensure consistency in messaging across all press materials.
4. Perform other duties:
- Perform other tasks related to the core functions of the role.
What you’ll need
- Education: You hold a master’s degree (or at least seven years of equivalent work experience) in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience related to the key responsibilities of the position. Including experience in corporate communications, internal communication, public relations, or journalism, preferably in an international institution or multinational corporation. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working in or with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as a familiarity with Washington DC-based institutions and other international organizations. Preference will also be given to candidates who have experience working with journalists and doing media relations.

Requirements:
- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration:
- Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time.
- Length of contract: 12 months which can be extended up to 3 years by mutual agreement.
- Work Location: On site.
