Overview:

The Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department has distinctive competence in a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.S. SMC implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, foundations, and private associations. In the past decade, our team has worked on issues such as diabetes, emergency and pandemic preparedness, obesity prevention, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, youth financial education, cancer, asthma, immunizations, violence prevention, access to health care, and tobacco control and cessation.

Job Summary:

The Sr. Communications Specialist will support various communication and marketing activities within the Social Marketing and Communication Department, across a range of health communication and business development projects. This position will provide a key role in providing communication training and technical assistance to support community-level efforts to prevent disease and promote healthy behaviors with a particular focus on obesity prevention including physical activity and nutrition. In addition, responsibilities might include identifying, developing, and supporting partnerships in support of campaigns intended to promote physical activity.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Deliver communication technical assistance to support capacity-building among local, state, and community-based organization teams, including consultation via telephone, email, and in person as well as onsite and web-facilitated training.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality training through various modes (in-person, online, social media, and mobile) in communication and social marketing to multiple audiences (federal agency leadership and staff, community organization leadership and staff, etc.) in various locations.
  • Develop, write, and edit a variety of materials for diverse audiences including reports, case studies, newsletters, presentations, and content for websites and social media.
  • Oversee production of materials, in collaboration with FHI 360’s in-house graphic design team.
  • Support development of innovative ideas for communication outreach and develop communication plans.
  • Ensure timely implementation of communication activities and monitor project against work plans.
  • Provide communication support for events and webinars.
  • Provide project management support for communications campaigns involving partnerships and stakeholders.
  • Develop communication plans for engaging stakeholders and partners.
  • Contribute to business development including writing sections for proposals and supporting the submission process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field.
  • At least 8 years of writing, editing, and publications experience.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills; must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate, influence, and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience working with state or local health departments a plus.
  • Experience working with national non-profit organizations a plus.
  • Experience working with graphic designers and a working knowledge of design concepts and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and collaborative manner with work colleagues and clients.
  • Motivation and willingness to take initiative and full responsibility for selective activities.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and creatively.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working with state or local health departments.
  • Experience writing about public health topics including physical activity, nutrition, obesity prevention, and/or maternal and child health
  • Experience identifying, developing, and maintaining partnerships.
  • Experience managing the materials development process.
  • Experience working in a consulting environment

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidates FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

 

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

 

US Based Hiring Salary Range: $90,000 – $110,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location.
