The Senior Manager, Leadership Gifts will manage a portfolio of high-net-worth donors, predominantly individuals, and identify and qualify new prospects to grow their portfolio and support a team fundraising target. They will use all tools available for giving and engagement, including estate gifts, in order to ensure all donors are fully maximized. This position employs principles of strategic, relational based fundraising focused on asking and maximizing donors. The role presently does not have supervisory duties but may do so in the future.

Essential Functions:

Reporting to Director, Principal Gifts, the Senior Manager, Leadership Gifts works closely with the major gifts team to grow revenue from individuals and family foundations for Plan International USA by identifying, soliciting, and stewarding major gift level donations emphasizing unrestricted or flexible funding as well as planned giving. The principal donation range for the portfolio will be donors giving approximately between $15,0000 and $100,000.

• Directly manage an established giving portfolio of high-net-worth donors by creating and executing a strategy for every donor to maximize their impact and connection with Plan.
• Secure leadership, and major gifts through written requests and face-to-face solicitations independently, with Board members, volunteers, Plan program staff, and/or with members of Plan International USA’s Executive Team.
• Serve as the main point of contact to all donors in portfolio, ensuring timely communication, appropriate asks and regular follow-up.
• Ensure donors feel the impact of their giving through personal and intentional touch points that update with stories and progress based on the donor’s interests.
• Utilize Salesforce for donor tracking (prospect management/moves management) by maintaining accurate, up-to-date, detailed donor records and contact information.
• Work with the Prospect Research Team as well as independently to identify leadership and major gift prospects. Lead qualification process of prospects.
• Work in a “team sales” approach that collaborates and positively supports one another. We succeed, fail, and learn as a team.
• Create an individual donor development plan for donors/prospects in portfolio, develop and implement long-term donor cultivation and solicitation strategies
• Understand the organizational and programmatic priorities to shape donor asks so that they can provide the greatest benefit to Plan.
• Build the story for donors that compel them to give, leveraging their interests and connecting them to impact.
• Prepare briefing memos for CEO, Board or others engaged in donor meetings/calls/events.
• Leverage a ‘champion-invite-invest’ framework with donors that encourages support in raising Plan’s profile and expanding the number of supporters to Plan.
• Participate in professional associations/events to increase awareness of Plan in private donor community.
• Work collaboratively across the larger fundraising team at Plan International USA (referred to as the PPMC) to support the full fundraising target.
• Collaborate with Prosect Research team on advancing lower-level donors or strategies to engage/maximize current major donors.
• Collaborate with Donor and Sponsor Loyalty and Engagement teams to identify and strategically approach child sponsor donors for larger gift asks.
• Advocate and represent your donors by respectfully engaging across the organization to access the information and materials needed to support your portfolio and making asks.
• Leverage communications and materials coming through Integrated Fundraising and Creative and Communications team as they may support donors in your portfolio.
• Think creatively and strategically on best ways to maximize current donors and invite new donors.
• Lead donor groups, meetings, and other projects as may arise.

Qualifications

• Outstanding people skills and excellent communication skills – both written and oral
• Outgoing, confident and graciously persistent
• Excellent problem-solving, time management and organizational skills
• Ability to work as a team player, as well as function independently in a remote office setting
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to travel domestically on a frequent basis and internationally as needed
• Knowledge of current trends in philanthropy
• Working knowledge of various planned gift vehicles (annuities, trusts, etc.)
• Ability to develop personal relationships with a variety of people in a variety of contexts
• A high degree of comfort in dealing with individuals of influence and affluence
• Ability to secure and increase contributions from current donors and prospects
• Ability to represent both the programs and heart of Plan to external audiences
• Demonstrated passion for fundraising and genuine interest in girls’ rights and the international relief and development world

Education and Experience:

• College degree or at least 5 years of experience in ask-based, one-to-one fundraising
• Proven track record of securing five and six- figure gifts
• Success in developing, organizing and executing engagement strategies for donors
• Proven ability to set and meet/exceed revenue targets
• Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Proficiency in Salesforce preferred

Plan International USA offers a comprehensive total compensation package inclusive of health benefits, paid time off (PTO), sick leave, and retirement plan contributions. We take several factors into account when determining salary offers, including candidate qualifications and experience, and internal equity. The target range for this position is between $90,000 – $105,000 annually.
