JOB SUMMARY:

About the Women in the Digital Economy Fund

CARE knows that when barriers to progress are taken out of their way, everyone is better off. We know that when women have the access, skills and confidence they need to engage online, they are better able to achieve their goals and expand their livelihoods. We also know that the solutions with the greatest potential to close the gender digital divide are being developed by people and institutions with the deepest knowledge on the goals women have and the barriers they face. In 2023, CARE was selected to lead the Women in the Digital Economy Fund (WiDEF), a $60M initiative to close the gender digital divide globally. WiDEF is a White House initiative launched jointly by USAID and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented by CARE the Global Digital Inclusion Partnership and GSMA, the largest industry association of mobile networks globally. Over the coming years, WiDEF will build a wide array of partnerships, run open competitions to support a network of local organizations to scale their work, generate new insights and evidence and advocate for progressive change to effectively close the gender digital divide.

About the Role

The Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications will manage all aspects of the WiDEF communications plan, co-defining strategy, coordinating with and guiding the work of WiDEF partners and managing a cross-functional team of marketing and communications specialists. The position will work closely with the WiDEF Managing Director, CARE’s Marketing team and WiDEF consortium partners to establish WiDEF’s voice and visibility and meet key communications goals. The role will also serve as a liaison between the WiDEF program team and external partners including program donors and private sector partners to align communications and marketing efforts. The position will be critical to ensuring WiDEF consistently presents clear messaging to an array of distinct stakeholders and effectively captures the intention and ignites the imagination and passion of people ranging from CARE country teams to policy institutions to prospective applicants for WiDEF funding.

About You

You are passionate about gender equality and helping women achieve their full potential. You believe deeply in the power of effective communications to change perspectives and behavior and love finding creative ways to cut through the noise and get people’s attention. You have managed the delivery of complex communications strategies for high-profile initiatives, working with a broad array of stakeholders. You love project management, keeping processes moving and delivering results from start to finish. You have strong people management skills and an ability to motivate teams to stay focused amidst ambiguity. You are a skilled communicator able to work across cultures – both institutional and geographic, equally comfortable speaking the languages of the non-profit and for-profit sectors. Ideally, you have some direct experience working on digital inclusion or an adjacent area (STEM, fintech, agtech, edtech, etc tech). But, if not, you are a quick learner and have the track record to prove it. It would be great if you have experience working with USAID, but that is not a deal breaker. Whatever your background, you bring your practical experience to your work and respect what everyone brings to the table. You have fun, a good sense of humor and you are able to laugh despite adversity.
