The Systems Onco-Immunology Lab in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a Staff Scientist to apply technical expertise and experience to coordinate, design, and carry out cancer research projects while adhering to the standard operating procedures of the laboratory. Under the direction of Hyun-Sung Lee, M.D., Ph.D., the Systems Onco-Immunology Lab (SOIL, https://www.bcm.edu/departments/surgery/research/systems-onco-immunology-lab) utilizes and develops innovative methods within the context of multi-omics technologies to investigate cancer-immune system networks and inform the design of novel approaches to immunotherapy. Our overarching goals are to identify potential therapeutic targets and develop strong prognostic or predictive determinants for the management of solid tumors by applying a “comprehensive and integrated systems immunology” approach.
Job Duties
- Plans, directs, and conducts research experiments.
- Evaluates, analyzes, and interprets data and results.
- Develops research techniques and perform applications required for specific research projects.
- Conducts literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for specific study.
- Documents experimental results and report to principal investigators.
- Supervises, schedules, and coordinates the activities of less experienced research staff.
- Participates in lab and team discussions on project progress, results, and future directions.
- Meets with collaborators to discuss projects and communicate results.
- Assists with manuscript and grant preparation and present results during lab meetings, department and institutional meetings, and scientific conferences.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Three years of post doctoral research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced experience with immunopeptidomics.
- Strong immunology or molecular biology background and experience in proteomics.
- Proficiency in mass spectrometry and interpreting results obtained from mass spectrometry.
- Ph.D. with at least three years of postdoctoral experience in fields related to proteomics.
