RepresentWomen is the leading women’s political representation organization in the United States that works on making systemic change so that more women can run, win, and lead. We champion and advance adoption of evidence-based solutions that break down structural barriers to women’s political leadership. We mobilize changemakers to support these reforms.

 

RepresentWomen Structure

RepresentWomen is a national organization located in Silver Spring, MD with staff members who work virtually all over the country and world. As an organization we:

  • Identify the most transformative, viable, and scalable structural reforms
  • Conduct research to determine the best practices to implement those reform
  • Identify and help stakeholders apply this knowledge to make real-world change

 

RepresentWomen is on a fast growth trajectory. Our current team consists of eleven full- and part-time staff. This position will need to maintain positive, collaborative relationships with all organizational staff. This position is remote with occasional in-person gatherings in the RepresentWomen office in Silver Spring, MD, and other in-person conferences and events around the US. The State Partnerships Manager will report to the Partnerships Director.

 

Summary/Description

In 2021 RepresentWomen completed a strategic plan that aims to double the size and budget of the organization, expanding the scope of our work and investing in infrastructure to sustain that growth. The State Partnerships Manager is a new position on the team, and will oversee the development, implementation, and effectiveness of its state-level partnerships. The State Partnerships Manager will work closely with the Partnerships Director to ensure that our important work is strategically disseminated in our target states across the US. 

 

The State Partnerships Manager is an early career professional with 5-7 years of advocacy, outreach, and relationship-building experience. They will be responsible for engaging with RepresentWomen’s state-level partners and allies according to the goals and objectives set by the Partnerships Director and Leadership Team. Related responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting the systems reform and representation movements in our target states, strategic outreach for research report launches, regular engagement with state-level partners and allies in our target states, organizing RepresentWomen-led events ideally in conjunction with relevant allies, and assisting the Partnerships Director with tracking metrics and evaluation. 

 

The position will be remote, with the option to work in a hybrid model if desired. At a minimum, the entire team meets in the Silver Spring, MD office twice a year for bi-annual all-staff gatherings. It is likely that regular travel to our target states will be required for this role.

 

Responsibilities

  • Deeply engages with the systems reform and women’s representation movements in our target states
  • Builds knowledge around our signature solutions with RepresentWomen’s partners and allies in our target states, 
  • Supports RepresentWomen’s agenda-setting work, helping to embed the need for systems strategies in the general discourse around women’s representation and building women’s political power in our target states
  • Works closely with the Partnerships Director to author and contribute to program and budget reports based on donor requirements.

 

Supports the systems reform and women’s representation movements in our target states (70%)

  • Tracks legislation and delivers expert testimony in our target states
  • Connects state and local supporters with their local systems reform effort
  • Equips changemakers (e.g., elected officials, election officials, advocates, etc.) with our data and tools via training, private meetings, presentations, outreach engagements, booths, panels, etc.
  • Facilitates a twin-track approach by connecting local organizations in the women’s representation ecosystem with the systems reform movement in our target states
  • Expands RepresentWomen’s existing convening work, specifically with state-level changemakers 

 

Knowledge Building and Agenda Setting (20%)

  • Works closely with the rest of the Partnerships and Communications teams to speak about RepresentWomen’s work on panels, attending conferences and conventions, staffing information booths in exhibition halls, etc. 

 

Reporting Support (5%)

  • Works closely with the Partnerships Director to author and contribute to program and budget reports based on donor requirements. 

 

Other (5%)

  • Contributes to RepresentWomen’s blogs and op-eds
  • Designs graphics for outreach materials as well as other digital content (as needed)

 

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant social science or humanities field, such as public policy, program management, political science, or international relations.
  • 5-7 years of increasingly responsible experience in advocacy or organizing, program implementation, and partnership-building, preferably in a nonprofit.
  • Partnership engagement, relationship-building, and/or coalition-building experience where the candidate was responsible for working across diverse contexts to enact change.
  • Advocacy campaign management and implementation experience where partnerships or coalitions were a key element to its success.
  • A deep understanding of and passion for gender balance in politics, as well as the role of structural reform in addressing the structural barriers that keep women from running, winning, serving, and leading in the U.S. government.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with public speaking, moderating panels, delivering presentations, etc.
  • The ability to handle a variety of projects and assignments at once while managing their time, maintaining tremendous attention to detail, and asking for support when needed. The ideal candidate is extremely organized.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to think through strategies or activities that can support our work in various contexts and with various types of partners. 
  • A good understanding of ranked choice voting, and experience with speaking on or advocating for ranked choice voting.
  • Extraordinary flexibility and willingness to adapt to new internal and external conditions.
  • An affinity for working with a culturally and politically diverse community.
  • A commitment to building and fostering a diverse, inclusive, and collegial workplace; multicultural competence and ability to work across lines of difference.
  • Experience with in-depth collaboration and coordination in remote working environments is a plus.

 

Salary

$60,000 – $75,000 per year
