Duty Station– Olympia, Washington – Thurston County
Hybrid/Telework– While this position offers a hybrid work arrangement, the successful candidate must be available to report to the Olympia, WA headquarters as needed (at least three (3) days per week)

This is an opportunity to support statewide outreach efforts by coordinating staff participation, consultation for sports shows, community events, and other public engagement initiatives. 

This position collaborates closely with program and regional teams, manages outreach materials, supports agency outreach tracking and evaluation  and advises staff on effective, inclusive engagement strategies.

What to Expect-
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Statewide Outreach Coordinator will,

Support Outreach Coordination and Consultation: 

• Analyze needs and opportunities to expand or enhance WDFW outreach activities. Participate in planning and implementing engagement activities to support implementation of WDFW’s 25-Year Strategic Plan.
  • Identify, promote, and develop monthly communications for the volunteer outreach team.
  • Promote agency services by attending public events and serving as liaison between the agency and external organizations.
• Support the Community Partnerships and Outreach Lead in managing the Department’s Outreach Tracking System.
  • Evaluate staff use of the system and make outreach recommendations to CAPE leadership based on data submitted to Outreach Tracking System.
  • Support staff’s use of the system, including developing and maintaining training aid(s) that support staff, responding to Help Form submissions, and providing system outage notifications.
  • Manage administrative tasks of the system including implementing updates from ESRI and the Department’s IT division.
• Consult with staff and support the coordination of events by engaging with the Department’s programs and regions to facilitate participation.
• Advise regional and program staff in best practices for intaking and responding to internal and external event and outreach requests.
• Create and develop strategic outreach plans and materials for community outreach activities and advise staff on effective community outreach strategies.

Provide Administrative and Materials Support:

• In collaboration with CAPE team, identify needs for outreach materials and coordinate with administrative staff to make purchases on behalf of CAPE.
• Manage and maintain outreach events and activities on WDFW public event calendar.
• Maintain outreach supplies inventory at the Natural Resources Building (NRB) and at WDFW’s warehouse.
• Support facilitation of live events via Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
• Manage Outreach Resources SharePoint page.

Assist with Multimedia Coordination:

• Contribute to quarterly Life Outdoors newsletter for anglers, hunters, and wildlife enthusiasts.
• Promote events and public engagement opportunities on WDFW social media platforms in coordination with Creative Media Team.

Working Conditions: 

Work Setting, including hazards: Fast-paced, deadline-oriented job with the majority of work within an office environment. Some outdoors activity which may include exposure to inclement weather and walking and standing outdoors on uneven surfaces. May require bending and lifting (up to 30 pounds) and transporting, setting up, and breaking down tables, chairs, and pop-up tents. Regular travel to WDFW warehouse for materials inventory which will include using a 4ft ladder. Office hazards include working under fluorescent light, repetitively entering data into computer, looking at computer monitor for long periods of time, sitting or standing for long periods of time. 

Schedule: Typically, Monday – Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Some weekend and evening work is required. Telework options may be available up to two (2) days per week.

Travel Requirements: Occasional in and out of state travel is required, occasional overnight travel may be required

Customer Interactions: Frequent interactions with agency staff and the public.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, public administration, natural resources, education, or related field.

And 

Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in community outreach, project or event management, communications, or closely related field.

Please Note: Closely related qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis. 

In addition, the following experience is required: 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Leading and working in multi-disciplinary teams
• Project management
• Time management and prioritization
• Working independently and interacting with the public
• Standard office equipment, including a computer and office telephone system, and all Microsoft Office software programs.

Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Driver’s License

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
Successful completion of agency training and/or certification per supervisory direction, position need, and training availability.

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, our ideal applicant will possess some or all the following:

Experience with: 

• Using GIS tools including working with ESRI and ArcGIS.
• Natural resources and outdoor recreation issues in Washington state.
• Multilingual language capabilities.
• Video, photography, and multimedia editing programs.
• Creating accessible content for people with disabilities.
• Planning and hosting in-person and virtual events.
• IT best practices.
