Sequoia National Forest (SQF) is located in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The U.S. National Forest is named for the majestic Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) trees which populate 38 distinct groves within the boundaries of the forest.
SQF is one of the most iconic natural locations on the West Coast and contains over 2,500 miles (4,000 km) of road and 850 miles (1,370 km) of trails, and hosts a number of camping and recreational facilities for your enjoyment. The forest is adjacent to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
The Eldorado National Forest (ENF) is an ideal place for people seeking to escape from busy urban lifestyles. Its climate and topography offer a wide range of recreational opportunities, including hiking, fishing, camping, and world-class skiing thanks to its proximity to Lake Tahoe, CA.
It is also located one hour from the metropolitan area of Sacramento which has a population of over one million people, and two to three hours driving time from the San Francisco Bay area, with a population of over six million. The Forest therefore plays a vital role in the environment, health and well being of over seven million people.
The only one of California’s 18 national Forests not crossed by a paved road or highway, the Mendocino National Forest (MNF) is especially attractive to people seeking an outdoor experience of tranquility and solitude. There are a variety of recreational opportunities — camping, hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, backpacking, boating, fishing, hunting, nature study, photography, and off-highway vehicle travel.
It is comprised of 913,306 acres and is approximately 65 miles long and 35 miles wide. The Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument was established in 2015 and lies on the southern part of the forest.
