Physical Requirements Regular sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods and performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); lifting, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds; exposure to the risk of injury. working in confined spaces; and occasionally requires job-related travel (less than 10% of time), exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, radiation, burns, cuts/punctures, recombinant DNA or viral vectors, and combative/violent people.
Shift Varies depending on the class schedule.
Job Summary This is an education pipeline program in which program participants will attend clinicals and participate in onsite instruction to achieve the minimum qualifications required to apply and test for the EMT certification. Program costs are covered by UK HealthCare with the expectation that participants will be hired into Emergency Medical Technician positions at UK HealthCare and work in that capacity for a minimum of one year.
Primary duties are obtaining reliable information and coordinating air and ground transport. This position serves as an Emergency Communications Technician for the UK HealthCare Enterprise taking emergency medical reports, and air traffic control operations, and plays an important role in trauma, stroke, and cardiac cath lab activations. Along with those duties, this position also serves as an EMT for the adult and neonatal/pediatric transport teams traveling through Kentucky and surrounding states to pick up ill or injured patients. Secondary duties include helipad safety operations, escorting EMS crews to various units within the hospital, offloading aircraft, and public relations events.
