The Stewardship Program Coordinator will work in cooperation with the US Forest Service (USFS) Sequoia, Mendocino, and Lassen National Forests to provide management of collaborative stewardship projects in the Sierra Nevada. The Coordinator will plan and oversee activities associated with the numerous Forest Restoration Projects, while also supporting the Forest wide effort to reduce fuel loading associated with pine beetle mortality, blow downs from high wind events, and post fire recovery. Additional coordination activities include NEPA planning and other implementation measures, including biomass removal, mastication, machine piling and shrub control. These projects reduce fuels and promote forest health and habitat improvement/protection by removing drought- and beetle-impacted trees as well as those lost from windfall events across National Forest.
Job duties are, but not limited to, the following:
Contract Timeline:
• Anticipated Start Date varies by forest from ASAP to February 2024
• Full time position at 40 hours per week; available to occasionally work a varied schedule as needed, including some weekends, evenings and/or holidays.
Location:
Sequoia National Forest (SQF) is located in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The U.S. National Forest is named for the majestic Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) trees which populate 38 distinct groves within the boundaries of the forest.
SQF is one of the most iconic natural locations on the West Coast and contains over 2,500 miles (4,000 km) of road and 850 miles (1,370 km) of trails, and hosts a number of camping and recreational facilities for your enjoyment. The forest is adjacent to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
The only one of California’s 18 national Forests not crossed by a paved road or highway, the Mendocino National Forest (MNF) is especially attractive to people seeking an outdoor experience of tranquility and solitude. There are a variety of recreational opportunities — camping, hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, backpacking, boating, fishing, hunting, nature study, photography, and off-highway vehicle travel.
It is comprised of 913,306 acres and is approximately 65 miles long and 35 miles wide. The Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument was established in 2015 and lies on the southern part of the forest.
Nestled in the scenic beauty of Northern California, Lassen National Forest (LNF) offers unparalleled natural splendor. It is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting over a million acres of wilderness that provides a serene and tranquil backdrop. The range of recreational activities is vast, including camping, hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. Encompassing over 1.2 million acres, Lassen was home to many Native Americans long before recorded history and is to this day.
