Stewardship Technician, Randall Preserve

What We Can Achieve Together:

The Randall Preserve Stewardship Technician leads work teams to ensure the coordination, community support, and implementation of the preserve management plan. The Stewardship Technician maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public, removes exotic species, monitors species, maintains tools and equipment, operates small equipment, oversees building maintenance, assists with maintaining working cattle ranch infrastructure, opens and closes preserve to the visiting public, and maintains the preserve’s sensor network including wildlife cameras, weather stations, water monitoring devices, virtual fence towers, audio recorders and a variety of remote wildlife monitoring devices.

The Randall Preserve Stewardship Technician performs and participates in preserve operations including the maintenance, management, development and coordination of conservation programs.  The Stewardship Technician will be expected to work on the preserve four days a week and work from their home office one day a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

• May lead or monitor work groups consisting of staff, interns, and volunteers covering a wide geographic area to complete habitat restoration, invasive plant control, and to repair and maintain ranching infrastructure and the sensor network.
• Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development and fundraising targets.
• Interacts with diverse groups, including landowners, conservation partners, government officials, donors, board members and the general public to recruit support for the Conservancy and publicize Conservancy programs/preserves.
• May work under minimal and/or distant supervision; may manage volunteers or work groups; may make some independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
• May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
• Leads maintenance and upkeep of buildings through completing minor maintenance and upkeep tasks, and quickly identifying problems and coordinating repairs and upgrades.
• Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.

What You’ll Bring:

• BA/BS degree in science-related field and 1 year of related experience in custodial and ecological land management or similar field (or equivalent combination of education and experience, i.e. 5 years of work experience w/GED or high school diploma, etc.)
• Experience in equipment operation, infrastructure management, custodial and/or land management practices or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with natural systems, including working lands.
• Experience in ecological land management principles.
• Experience operating and/or repairing various types of small equipment and machinery, such as a skid steer and mini excavator.

Desired Qualifications

• Spanish speaking/writing proficiency.
• Some experience managing volunteers or entry level staff.
• Ability to recognize plant and animal species to complete preserve management activities.

Salary Information:

The starting pay for this position is within the range of $29.34 – $31.10 per hour. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA and state of employment is California. Where a successful candidate’s pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including location, qualifications, skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
