We provide unique mental health services to those most in need including counselling, peer support, groups, online forums and art programs. In addition, we educate, reduce stigma, advocate and drive system change.

About the role:

SANE StigmaWatch is a long-standing stigma reduction program funded by the Commonwealth Government and supported by Mindframe, aimed at reducing harmful or distressing media content. The StigmaWatch Program Lead manages the day-to-day operations, including project management, program administration, reporting, and maintaining relationships with key partners. This role also supports the Manager of Public Affairs and Advocacy in promoting stigma awareness and educating various sectors on the media’s role in reducing stigma related to mental ill-health and suicide.

Duties:

  • Ensure SANE’s StigmaWatch program is respected and implemented by Australian media professionals reporting on mental ill-health and suicide, by promoting Mindframe guidelines and educating on best practices.
  • Conduct daily media monitoring, respond to community reports, and provide feedback to media professionals for responsible reporting.
  • Log and track issues and responses, manage program reporting requirements, and track the program’s impact.
  • Create and manage content for StigmaWatch’s quarterly eDM and collaborate on social media content to raise program awareness.
  • Support research by the Anne Deveson Research Centre and track monthly media coverage, assisting with reporting.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, especially with Mindframe, and work with SANE’s teams to ensure accurate representation of lived experiences in media.
  • Represent StigmaWatch at events and conferences, and ensure timely delivery of reports to government and partners.

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • A tertiary or post graduate qualification in mental health, communications, project management or other related field, with at least five years experience.
  • Experience in the implementation and evaluation of large-scale community, communications or education programs or campaigns.
  • Excellent time and project management skills, with the ability to develop and deliver processes to ensure programs are executed on brief and on time.
  • Experience developing compelling stories and content.
  • Basic understanding of the media environment.
  • Understanding of mental health and the impact of stigma, with the attributes needed to manage sensitive information and stories.
