Are you passionate about supporting Native Fish Recovery? Do you want to implement monitoring programs for ESA listed summer chum salmon, steelhead, and coho salmon and stock assessment?
Embrace this role to focus on monitoring programs for both adult and juvenile life stages of these species, this position operates traps, conducts spawning surveys and biological sampling, and enters and summarizes data for the district biologist.
Duties
What to Expect-
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Stock Assessment Technician will,
Serves as the Assistant Manager for the Snow Creek Research Station, Salmon Creek adult and outmigrant fry trap, and Jimmycomelately Creek adult trap.
Interagency Coordination and Volunteer Crew Supervisor.
Crew Lead Technician.
Population data collection, database management, and evaluation of salmon population estimates necessary for meeting interagency agreements with tribal co-managers for recovery and fisheries management purposes.
Working Conditions:
Work setting: 80% of the field work is on trap sites, which can be difficult to access. Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations. Trap monitoring includes responding to emergent events related to weather, flows, and fish movement within 30 minutes of notification. Stream surveys include walking long distances of up to 8 miles a day on uneven ground, climbing over logs and wading in inclement weather conditions and changing flows. Duties will require heavy lifting up to 100 pounds.
Schedule: Work schedule is variable, but is typically 40 hours over a 5-day period. Work will be performed on nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED including 1 year of high school science.
And
Four (4) years of experience as a Scientific Technician OR laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a health or safety professional, biologist, chemist, or zoologist.
Please note: College course work involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or closely allied field will substitute, year for year, for experience, provided the course work includes at least six semester or nine quarter hours of natural or environmental science classes.
License: A valid driver’s license.
