Overview

The Strategic Alliance & Coalitions Senior Officer is part of ILGA Worlds Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sex Characteristics (GIESC) programme. They will be the main responsible for our work responding to anti-rights and anti-gender actors; coordinating our Unearthing Human Rights Narratives project, a collaborative project with GATE and CREA; and working towards deepening collaboration and coordination with global feminist, SRHR movement actors, and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The Strategic Alliances & Coalitions Senior Officer supports and reports to the Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sex Characteristics Manager, in the implementation of the GIESC programmes. This includes:

Specific to the position

  • Coordinate ILGA World’s work responding to anti-rights and anti-gender actors and ensure collaboration with other movement actors and stakeholders including in feminist and SRHR movements
  • Implement ILGA World’s “Unearthing Human Rights Narratives” in coordination with ILGA World’s project partners:
    • Develop and implement activities that strengthen and support cross-movement relationships and actions by LGBTI and feminist-led organisations.
    • Organise and implement a global convening of women’s and LGBTI organisations, activists, governments, and other actors at the 2024 ILGA World Conference
    • Support the building of the capacity of local and national groups, LGBTI-led CSOs and regional organisations to develop, lead and implement more strategic campaigns
    • Organise and deliver training for the level of campaigning, policy and advocacy work for national, regional and global stakeholders
    • Identify and build strategic partnerships and alliances between stakeholders and movements
    • Research and document good practice on connecting SOGIESC issues with feminist foreign policies
  • Coordinating the partnership with CREA and GATE:
    • Oversight and monitor compliance with the partnership agreements
    • Submission of partner reports
  • Carry out or contribute to projects from development and planning through to implementation and oversight of the project, ensuring the overall quality of deliverables, including
    • Drafting quarterly donor reports
    • Monitoring the project budget & workplan
    • Ensure compliance with donor agreement
  • Work together with colleagues from the UN, Research, Projects/Regions, and Communications team in coordinating project activities, & the MEL team in reporting on project implementation.

General

  • Actively contribute to promoting and achieving the organisation’s objectives
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out with full regard to ILGA World policies
  • Attend and contribute to conferences, seminars and meetings on behalf of ILGA World
  • Work as a part of the ILGA World staff team
  • Perform other duties as required.

Relationship with colleagues

ILGA values creative and inclusive approaches to work and management that have been achieved through cross-service area working and the participation of staff at all levels in the organisation. Requirements

Education and qualifications

  • A master’s university degree or equivalent in international gender studies, international law, sociology, social sciences, or a related field combined with 5 years of relevant work experience
  • A first-level university degree in combination with 7 years of relevant and qualifying experience
  • 10 years of relevant and qualifying experience in lieu of a master’s or first-level degree

Experience

  • 5-10 years of relevant and qualifying experience designing, managing international projects, countering the anti-gender/anti-democracy/anti-right rhetoric
  • 5 years of experience coordinating cross-movement partnerships/consortiums
  • Demonstrated experience working in multicultural and international programmes
  • Managing large budgets and grant partnerships
  • Working with national Governments on anti-rights actors and issues
  • Experience working closely with and supporting trans, gender-diverse, intersex, and/or LBQ-led organisations and groups, particularly in the Global South

Technical requirements

  • Seasoned knowledge in anti-right actors, strategies, and how to counter them
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multilateral institutions, including the United Nations human rights mechanisms
  • Extensive technical knowledge and expertise on gender identity, gender expression programmes, policy analysis, capacity building and extensive experience in strategic planning, drafting reports, policy briefs and documents
  • Working and building partnerships with member organisations, stakeholders, governments, multilateral institutions, and allied civil society movements
  • Demonstrate rooted connections with allied and intersectional feminist movements

Other requirements

  • Strong communication skills, able to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Tailoring language, tone, style, and format to the audience
  • Ability to work in proficient English (mandatory) and ideally Spanish. Other UN languages — more specifically, French, Arabic, Russian or Mandarin — are also welcome
  • Adherence to, and alignment with, the ILGA World Code of Conduct

Performance of duties, remuneration, and benefits

  • ILGA World is currently introducing a flexible workplace regime – under the new rules, this position can be implemented remotely and does not require relocation to Geneva, Switzerland
  • The position is advertised at 100% of a full-time position
  • ILGA World remunerates under a three-tiered salary matrix structure. The annual salary being offered for the post ranges between 65,520 CHF and 82,800 CHF for the 100% position, depending on location
  • In addition, ILGA World offers 35 days between legal holidays and annual leave and contributions to health care costs
  • ILGA World operates under a flexible working system that – among others – includes flexible working hours
  • The weekly working time is 37.5 hours on a 100% position.
