Public Health is one of six departments within the County Council, exercising the full range of public health duties, including the delivery and commissioning of services. The Director of Public Health is a chief officer of the council, reporting directly to the Chief Executive.This position reports to the Consultant in Public Health responsible for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.This is a challenging, interesting and potentially very rewarding role which provides individuals with an opportunity to develop their understanding of mental health as well as their broader public health skills working with partners across the system as well as within the Council.The role will include strategy development, partnership working, commissioning, budget management, and some line management. The programme area itself is broad, taking a lifelong approach, including children and young people, and ranges from mental health prevention and resilience to suicide prevention and dementia.Ideally we are looking for an individual with: a passion for mental health and well being (experience of working in the area of mental health would be desirable but not essential); and an ability to operate at a strategic level with partners at a system, place and neighbourhood level to develop and embed a public health evidence based approach to mental health.As well as being suitably qualified, candidates will need to have experience of successfully managing, budgets, projects, and leading through change.
