Description
The Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game works to preserve the state’s natural resources and people’s right to conservation of those resources, as protected by Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution. To carry out this mission, the Department exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth’s marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife species, plants, and natural communities, as well as the habitats that support them.
The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (DFW) is responsible for the conservation – including restoration, protection, and management – of fish and wildlife resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the public.
The Department of Fish and Game’s Division of Fisheries and Wildlife is accepting resumes and applications for the position of Stream and River Biologist Project Leader (Aquatic Biologist IV) assigned to the Field Headquarters in Westborough, MA.

The Stream and River Biologist Project Leader writes fisheries conservation management plans, focusing on warm and cool water streams and large rivers, analyzes fisheries and other aquatic resource data, develops fisheries and instream flow recommendations and undertakes actions to protect, maintain, and restore fish populations and their habitats.
The Project Leader sets project-specific priorities and plans, conducts fisheries and habitat assessment work, performs statistical and GIS analysis of data sets, and prepares technical reports and presentations.
The Project Leader interacts with other state and federal environmental agencies to further enhance protection of fisheries resources and their habitats through Federal Energy Regulatory Commission hydropower relicensing efforts and statewide water policy deliberations.
The Project Leader develops and makes presentations at public meetings and hearings; work with other environmental stakeholders and sportsmen’s organizations to advance watershed-based fisheries conservation and management objectives and participate in professional organizations and societies to identify emerging strategies for improving the agencies effectiveness with protecting and/or restoring fisheries habitat.

Qualifications

Applicants must have at least (A) five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, para-professional or technical experience in marine biology or fisheries management work, of which (B) at least three years must have been in a professional capacity and of which (C) at least two years must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (D) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor’s degree with a major in marine, fisheries or wildlife biology; fisheries or wildlife management; marine science or oceanography may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.*
II. A Graduate degree with a major in marine, fisheries or wildlife biology; fisheries or wildlife management; marine science or oceanography may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
