Stream Restoration Heavy Equipment Operator

The position will be based on a remote ranch in southeast Wyoming. The candidate would be part of a crew carrying out stream, pond, and wetland habitat restoration projects on private land. The bulk of the work will involve heavy equipment operation to construct and enhance trout habitat; however, this work will also require physical labor such as erosion control material installation and willow stake planting. Depending on a candidate’s experience level, there may also be an opportunity to assist with stream profile surveys, wetland delineation, fish biomass surveys, and other related activities. Since the position is based in a remote location, a food stipend and housing on the ranch will be provided. This position would ideally be filled from April 1st through November 15th. Full-time positions may also become available to the correct candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in stream restoration and erosion control projects
• Operate heavy equipment (excavator, wheel loader, dozer, articulated dump  truck, skid steer, motor grader)
• Material handling and storage
• Basic maintenance of heavy equipment and work vehicles including greasing, oil changes, filter replacement, etc.
• Keep track of time and report twice monthly
• Assist with fisheries biomass assessments, pre and post-restoration

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements

• College degree in construction management, natural resource management, environmental science prefered
• Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in stream restoration/erosion control work
• Ability to work independently or on a team to complete daily activities according to work schedule
• Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, stand, and bend for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
• Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
