Stroud District, like most of Gloucestershire suffered the effects of severe flooding in July
2007 and there have been more significant events since.

The Stroud Valleys Natural Flood Management project was established in May 2014 as a
partnership between SDC, the Environment Agency and the local community as a response to the
flooding. It has established an award winning reputation as an exemplar Natural Flood
Management (NFM) project, delivering to date almost 700 NFM interventions working with a wide
range of nearly 60 landowners and stakeholders. Further information on the project can be found

This is a permanent post with SDC which is currently funded by the English Severn & Wye
Regional Flood and Coastal Committee. With funding currently confirmed until March 2027. For a
person with the right skills and experience a secondment from their current place of employment
would also be considered for a fixed term of 2 years.

We are looking for a Project Delivery Officer who has the skills and qualities to build on the
success of the project and have the vision to develop it further and contribute to securing
its long-term future. Training will be provided for the person with the right transferable
skills.

You will need to have: 

  • experience of working with community groups and in partnership with other stakeholders
    including landowners, statutory agencies and NGO’s
  • the ability to communicate effectively across a range of media and audiences
  • a passion for rural development and environmental protection
  • an understanding of the principles of Natural Flood Management/RSuDS
  • experience of environmental project delivery 
  • experience of delivering NFM projects is desirable

The 37-hour working week is flexible between 7am and 10pm, Mon-Sun, and the role will
involve some out-of-hours and weekend work. This is a front-line role which will require
working out on site in the Stroud District with limited capacity for remote working.
