Job Summary

The Student Assistant will support the Department of Mechanical Engineering as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2024.

Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

Employment is contingent upon funding.


Responsibilities

  • Preparing and running engine experiments, instrumentation, calibration, and data acquisition.
  • Conducting advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation and research in combustion, emissions, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) of fired engines.
  • Processing data, working on a research paper, and conducting demonstrations and training for other students.
  • Focus areas: Propulsion, Low Temperature Combustion, High-speed data acquisition technologies, Combustion Data Analysis, FTIR Emissions Analyzer, Aerospace Propulsion Systems Emissions Analysis.

Shift Specifics

  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.


Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience

  • Proficiency with computers and computer languages, specifically LabVIEW and MATLAB.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience working with different types of sensors and data acquisition systems.


Proposed Salary

$11.50 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
