Who you are

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the well-being of students from diverse backgrounds? We are seeking a dedicated and qualified individual to join our team as a Student Counsellor. If you have a background in counselling, mental health, clinical or educational psychology, or social work, and a wealth of experience in the field, we want to hear from you!

What youll do

As a Student Counsellor, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the student experience through proactive support, utilizing therapeutic interventions, and implementing psychoeducational programs. You will also support the integration of well-being and resilience resources into academic activities. Operating from a trauma-informed framework, you will contribute to strengthening student resilience and self-efficacy.

  • Provide counselling and therapeutic interventions.
  • Develop and deliver psychoeducational programs to proactively enhance the student experience.
  • Contribute to students wellbeing and welfare in the context of a multidisciplinary case management approach.
  • Maintain the required skills and knowledge to respond to complex presentations such as domestic violence, sexual assault, and suicidal risk.
  • Provide supervision to students on placement.

What will help you succeed

  • A degree in counselling, mental health, clinical or educational psychology or social work with extensive experience working in the profession.
  • Registration or accreditation with a relevant industry body.
  • Demonstrate a track record of providing ethical psychological and/or mental health services, including triage, brief therapy, psychoeducational programs, assessment, and appropriate interventions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures, including an understanding of the issues affecting people in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated communication and negotiation skills to work considerately and effectively with diverse clients.
  • A sound understanding of the unique issues related to adults engaged in tertiary education.
  • Demonstrated experience in organising and prioritising projects and tasks to meet deadlines and achieve high-quality work outcomes.

Salary: Total remuneration range $125,888 to $144,558 pa (includes salary range of $106,370 to $122,144 pa, employer super contributions of 17% and annual leave loading)
