About the opportunity

The Student Life Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of student life programs and initiatives for cohorts across the University. This casual position will support students in need of financial and wellbeing support during our peak service delivery periods.

The Student Life Coordinator will coordinate and collaborate with teams from across the PVC Student Life Cluster, central units, faculties and schools, and student groups on the delivery of financial support and wellbeing initiatives and services. The role includes the review and support of student applications and referrals that may contain sensitive health and personal information.

The Student Life Coordinator will be assisted and guided by the Student Journey and Engagement Manager and Manager, Student Wellbeing Engagement on priorities based on the agreed strategies for student support, and the needs identified by metrics derived from Institutional Analytics and Planning (IAP) data.

The Student Life Coordinator must be adaptable and capable of supporting all roles across their team and be able to respond to unplanned requirements that may arise from time to time

You will be responsible for:

  • coordinate and support delivery of student life programs and initiatives which support the delivery of key strategies and frameworks, are suitable for various cohorts across the University, are aligned to the student journey, and delivered at-scale via appropriate digital platforms, with a focus on Orientation, International, Transition and Financial Support

  • contribute to the development of a university-wide Student Life Communications and Events annual plan that reflects the strategic objectives agreed for the PVC Student Life Cluster

  • coordinate and collaborate with the Managers within PVC Student Life Cluster, and their leads, to deliver to student life programs and Initiatives

  • develop relationships with key stakeholders across the University and external partners, facilitating clear communication and disseminating core messages to students and the wider University as appropriate

  • contribute to the development of materials and communications to increase awareness and effectiveness of student life programs

  • support the triage function of the Office of Student Life by providing case management support and referral to other University teams and/or external providers via peer support advisors and Student Life staff

  • contribute to the ongoing administration and management of undergraduate, postgraduate, bursaries and loans. This involves working with internal stakeholders such as Office of General Counsel, Development Office, Division of Alumni and Development and Corporate Finance

  • monitor changes in government and non-government assistance programs, and analyse how these changes impact on University students, and make recommendations for changes to schemes, terms and conditions of bursaries and the development of new bursaries where appropriate

  • undertake other duties as appropriate to the role and classification.

About you

  • background in wellbeing promotion and prevention work, student advising (academic and career focus) or student support services with extensive experience in delivery of large-scale student-facing initiatives using a variety of delivery models and digital platforms, including proactive support, triage functions and use of relevant digital platforms

  • demonstrated experience in delivering a strong client-focused service and developing a service culture.

  • demonstrated experience in the coordination of large-scale online and face-to-face events, with third-party providers where relevant.

  • demonstrated ability to analyse, coordinate and process information from many sources for the purpose of determining needs and priorities for delivery of student life programs and initiatives to inform evidence-based approaches

  • demonstrated ability to analyse, coordinate and process policy information for the purpose of assessing impacts and implications to planned student life programs and initiatives

  • excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with complex and sensitive student concerns

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
