About the Veterans Resource Center
The Veterans Resource Center (VRC) at Golden West College is dedicated to supporting veterans and their dependents in their academic journey. We offer a variety of resources and services, including guidance on navigating the admissions and financial aid processes, connecting with academic support, and fostering a sense of community. Through individual advising, workshops, and events, the VRC empowers veterans to thrive at GWC and achieve their educational goals. The Student Equity Specialist will coordinate events for veterans and oversee daily operations and activities n the VRC.
Summary
Performs a variety of student-centered services supporting acclamation to college life, retention, and success. Assists in coordinating and carrying out various student-centered events and activities contributing to student success and retention. Monitors students’ acceptable academic progress and other indicators to offer positive interventions and prepare reports for student success program compliance.
Distinguishing Career Features
The Student Success & Equity Specialist works collaboratively within Student Services providing support to new and at-risk student populations and to facilitate the delivery of student success and support services such as assessment, orientation, educational planning, and connections to activities contributing to retention. The Student Success & Equity Specialist also gathers data for use in writing reports to higher education oversight agencies and assists with outreach and collaborative efforts to secondary education for promoting pathways to college and careers.

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, D.E.I.A
The position typically requires an Associate’s degree in a social or human services field or education and three years of experience working with student populations. A Bachelor’s degree may substitute for some experience. Or, any combination of education and experience which would meet the required equivalent qualifications for the position.
AND
Demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, ethnic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom and campus.
Licenses and Certificates
Requires a valid driver license.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
This recruitment is for one permanent, full-time classified, 40 hour per week, 12-month per year position. The normal hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. This position does not have a remote work option and is expected to be on campus Monday through Friday. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.
