The Role

As a Student Support Officer, your role is more than just a title; you’ll be a guide, mentor, and confidant. You’ll work tirelessly to support our students, instilling in them Yalari’s core values of Compassion, Openness, Respect Resilence, Inclusiveness and Excellence.

Your role is based afterschool, evenings and weekends where you’ll provide emotional and cultural support to nurture independent thinkers and future leaders. The relationships you build are the cornerstone of our student support network. You will work closely with partner school staff, parents and guardians, our Head Office Team, and our scholarship students.

In addition, you will play a crucial role in connecting students to their future role as alumni. By nurturing a sense of belonging and purpose, you’ll inspire them to envision their place in the Yalari community beyond their school years.

Administrative tasks, case management, student sponsor updates and insightful reporting will all be part of your responsibilities, connecting you to our mission.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who can quickly build rapport with various stakeholders including young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents, and staff at our Partner Schools. You will have demonstrated experience working effectively with young people and dealing with challenging situations and circumstances. We are looking for someone who can communicate broadly, work remotely while staying connected to the rest of the team, and organise workflow efficiently. You will need computer literacy including the ability to use Microsoft Sharepoint and other online database tools.

A ‘can do’ attitude, sense of humour and ability to problem-solve are essential.

This role comes with a degree of flexibility to benefit both staff members and students. The ideal candidate is someone who is highly organised and can be flexible enough to meet immediate needs as they arise.

Additional Requirements of the position:

  • Availability to work outside of business hours. Most of your contracted hours will be afterschool, evenings, and weekends.
  • Availability to travel at least four times each year to Yalari Head Office (Gold Coast) to attend paid training, development and team building sessions.
  • Full availability of contracted hours in the first and last week of all school terms and for the Yalari Orientation Camp held on the Gold Coast (one week) in mid-January each year.
