The primary objective of the project which is under Programme for Respiratory Infections is to identify the burden of invasive fungal infections in selected hospital sites of Bangladesh. In addition, the project will explore antifungal resistance pattern in order to generate and share knowledge that improves the clinical management scenario for such infections.

The Study Physician will report to the Senior Research Investigator and will be mainly responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Daily screening of patients in hospital settings to identify potential participants;
  • Enroll eligible patients and collect their demographic, clinical and epidemiological data;
  • Collect clinical specimen from eligible patients and process for further laboratory testing;
  • Assist to prepare results and facilitate the result-sharing sessions with the hospital authorities;
  • Maintain a database of the Determination of Cause of Death results and family follow-ups;
  • Assist data management officer to Maintain data quality in the database;
  • Address questions made by supervisors, investigators and donors, and finalize reports;
  • Prepare and share weekly and monthly reports and work plans as per deliverables;
  • Review information on data captured and develop possible manuscript ideas under the guidance of Principal Investigator, Co-investigators, Senior Research Investigator, and Research Investigator;
  • Perform analysis based on direction from supervisor;
  • Create a report with findings and share with supervisor;
  • Write sections of the manuscript under supportive guidance of supervisor;
  • Guide team members on completion of tasks, reports, and documents (e.g. research methods);
  • Provide on-the-job training to junior staff such as data entry in online platform;
  • Provide feedback on team members’ performance to the supervisor in order to develop an efficient team.

Required qualification and experience:

  • MBBS degree from a Medical College recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council with completion of one-year internship training;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the relevant field. Those who have previous experiences in mycological research and developing abstract by using project data and present in scientific seminar will get preference;
