Job Summary:
The Camp Counselor will be responsible for successfully executing the summer camp curriculum at the Endangered Wolf Center. This person will assist with camper check-in and check-out; maintain a safe, fun, and educational environment; and lead campers in all activities, including but not limited to games, crafts, hikes, water activities, and tours. Safety is of the utmost importance, and the Camp Counselor will be responsible for maintaining and using the first aid kit, as well as completing any incident reports.
This is an hourly, seasonal position that will work 40 hours per week for 12 weeks. Availability to work a flexible schedule is required, including some evenings.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise campers and maintain a fun and safe environment.
- Execute summer camp curriculum as designed by the Youth Programs Coordinator.
- Check campers in and verify identification of adults during pickup to ensure the safety of all campers.
- Prepare daily camp supplies.
- Maintain cleanliness of camp areas.
- Provide a quality experience to all campers and provide excellent customer service to families.
- Assist Guest Relations and Education Department to communicate with camp families, as needed.
- Maintain the first aid kit, provide aid to campers, and complete incident reports as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Education Manager and Youth Programs Coordinator.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, and rain.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Captivating and dynamic personality.
- Experience educating children.
- First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to become certified by completing online training.
- Able to establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments.
- Professional, can-do attitude.
- Ability to be flexible and work a fluctuating schedule.
- Appropriately respond to the needs of campers and guests.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in the form of training, work experience, or a college degree in a relevant field.
- Teaching experience in a formal setting.
- Wildlife or conservation education experience.
- Bilingual in Spanish, ASL, or other language.
