Summer Camp Field Staff

North Branch Nature Center is seeking qualified individuals to teach and lead campers from preschool up to seventh grade during our 2026 summer camp.

Responsibilities include:

  • Share your love for nature and the outdoors with children.
  • Teach lessons in natural history and field studies by leading group games, arts and crafts, sensory awareness activities, storytelling, and singing.
  • Manage groups of up to 16 campers, working with campers, parents, and other staff to address any behavioral issues, and to ensure a safe and inclusive camp environment.
  • Communicate with camper caregivers about camper successes and challenges. Work with parents and caregivers to address any camper behavioral needs.
  • Work as a team member to promote a nature- and place-based approach to learning.
  • Adhere to NBNC’s safety protocols and manage risk in an outdoor setting.
  • Uphold NBNC’s commitment to promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI.)
  • Participate in a week-long staff training.
  • Participate in a daily debrief with camp co-leaders.
  • Participate in a rotating schedule as an aftercare leader with other staff members.
  • Participate in facilities/camp program material maintenance.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Life experience teaching in an outdoor environment, and/or relevant undergraduate coursework, and/or an undergraduate degree.
  • Patient, energetic, fun-loving, hardworking, and possessing a sense of humor.
  • Experience communicating and working with parents and caregivers to provide behavioral support that ensures a safe and fun environment for all participants.
  • Experience in childhood education, environmental education, and/or a science background.
  • Experience in managing groups of children.
  • Experience in time management, planning a schedule, and working out logistics.
  • Flexibility, ability to work well with others, and open and effective communication style.
  • Certification in standard First Aid and CPR, at a minimum.
  • Willingness to complete a background check.
