The Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission is seeking Summer Rangers for the 2025 summer season from June-September ($15-17/hr depending on experience, 40-hour week). Start and end dates are flexible. The Land Bank manages over 4000 acres of conservation land across the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Summer Rangers play a vital role in providing support to visitors accessing some of the Land Bank’s highest use properties.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a welcoming and informative representative of the Land Bank to property visitors
- Record hourly property use data including number of visitors, vehicles, and swimmers
- Educate visitors on property features and regulations and manage parking lot use
- Monitor significant changes in trail, beach, and parking lot conditions
- Maintain property cleanliness by picking up trash
- Regularly communicate with supervisor and other staff members regarding property use data, schedules, and property status
Requirements:
- A demonstrated interest in working outside and an ability to work in all weather conditions including heat, wind, and occasional rain
- Attention to detail and ability to problem solve
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to respond to stressful situations in a calm manner
- Capable of working independently and cooperatively with other staff
- Valid driver’s license and your own vehicle
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays
Housing and compensation:
- $15-$17/hr depending on experience, 40 hours per week
- Seasonal shared housing is available in exchange for an additional 4 hours of work per week. If you require housing, please make note of it in your application.
