Job title: Supervising Engineer
Department: Programs Department
Location: PWJ Erbil Office – Frequent visits to Duhok
Report to: Country Representative & Senior Engineer
Duration: 1 Year Renewable according to budget & performance
Principal responsibilities
- Supervision of construction works.
- Ensuring all constructions and its maintenance done according to plan.
- Report on all activities to the required supervisor or designate.
- Involved actively in the decision and program process implementation of engineering projects.
Tasks in details
- Manage overall engineering projects and supervise all field staffs, including trainers for the vocational training, under the construction projects
- Preparation of estimates and drawing for all construction activities as required.
- Supervise and monitor the construction training project
- Provide technical assistance and supervision to PWJ engineering activities.
- Update and detailed weekly and monthly reports on all activities for the attention of program head.
- Daily monitoring and supervision of all activities in the field
- Preparation of bidding and tender documents for contracted works.
- Recruitment of casual labour and contractors when and where necessary.
- Make sure regarding the quality control and quality assurance of the materials prior to distribution to the beneficiaries by the contractor.
- Establish and maintain good relationship with other stakeholders.
- Ensuring that materials for projects are up to the required specifications and quantities.
- Supervising the distribution cash for work staff.
- Coordination with camp management / local authorities for the project issues.
- Data entry for google sheet in google drive of implementation work and materials distribution on daily basis.
- Sending construction material for testing to the Laboratory for quality control material
- Review project designs (buildings architecture, structural, external works and electro-mechanical works) in terms of accuracy, suitability to overall design requirements, including identifying improvements in the designs and be able to propose practical solutions and alternatives.
- Ensure all construction works and maintenance are done according to the workplan.
- Work closely with construction laboratory to ensure the quality of the construction materials prior to be used on site.
- Site visits to identify and solve technical problems support and guidance to the contractor and assists in resolving site problems.
- Participate in the Technical and financial evaluation of the project prior to be awarded to the contractor.
Knowledge and experience required
- A minimum of 10 years of experience including at least 4 years work experience in engineering preferably with international NGOs.
- Certificate as a construction Engineer.
- Excellent knowledge and experience in humanitarian work.
- Business level computer literate (Ability to use Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, Autocad is a must)
- Fluent English, Arabic, Kurdish – both spoken and written.
- High ability to organize tasks simultaneously and prioritize work.
- Fully-available in the field/site
- Available to work in different locations between Duhok and Erbil
- High ethics and motivation to work in the humanitarian field.
- Good physical condition to meet the job’s demands and work in the field.
- Willingness to adhere to and carry out Peace Winds Japan rules.
Working hours
- Standard working hours according to Peace Winds Japan regulations.
- A reasonable degree of flexibility is expected when and where required.
Language Requirements (writing, speaking, and reading):
•English – Excellent
•Kurdish – Native or Native level
•Arabic – Fluent
