UTHealth Houston Neurosurgery is hiring for a Supervisor, Insurance Verification Authorization, to join their team of professionals. The Supervisor will be responsible for day-to-day oversight and supervision of assigned staff, training employees, assisting with production tracking, and more. The ideal candidate will have insurance verification and authorization knowledge. Epic experience is a plus.

 

Location: 6400 Fannin St., Houston, Texas 77030 (hybrid work schedule)

Position Summary:

Responsible for the pre-arrival/authorization process for assigned departments, and oversees and ensures the accuracy of data submitted to payors, completeness of insurance claims, and compliance with federal and state rules and regulations applicable to professional billing collections.

 

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Performs audit denial review to ensure internal policies and procedures are followed.
2. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, and that commercial payer guidelines are followed.
3. Provides day-to-day oversight and supervision of assigned staff.
4. Sets performance goals for assigned staff, monitors their work performance and attendance.  Provides coaching to assigned staff and conducts weekly team meetings.
5. Ensures that the staff is adequately trained to meet work volumes and identifies deficiencies to ensure employees receive additional training as necessary.
6. Promotes, and maintains, positive relationships with both internal and external customers.
7. Maintains confidentiality, in accordance with HIPAA regulations and University policy, with patients and commercial insurance carriers regarding sensitive data and financial affairs.
8. Identifies and assesses relevant regulatory changes to ensure policies and procedures remain compliant with federal and state law.
9. Assists with the management of Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, and performance evaluations.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.  

Certification/Skills:

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.  Proven ability to effectively problem solve.
Ability to handle all situations in a professional, courteous and efficient manner.

Minimum Education:

Associate’s Degree in Business or equivalent or a combination of education and related experience.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in Patient Access or Revenue Cycle operations, with at least one year experience in a leadership role preferred.  Must have experience working with various insurance companies, and extensive knowledge of billing and collections for various types of commercial and governmental plans.

 

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
