This position is located in Cultural Resources, Partnerships, and Science Directorate, in the National Register (NR) of Historic Places and National Historic Landmarks (NHL) Program.
Incumbent plans and assigns work to be accomplished by employees and serves as subject matter expert on National Register criteria, procedures, and processes.
The major duties of the Supervisory Landscape Architect/Architect/Historian/Archeologist position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either “full-time” (or “40 hours a week”) or “part-time” with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience.
You must meet one of the following Basic Requirements (in one or more of the below job series) in order to be eligible for this position:
Landscape Architect: 0807:
A degree in landscape architecture or landscape design.
A combination of education and experience. For each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design.
Architect – 0808 Series:
Degree: architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
Combination of education and experience — college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following:
Historian: 0170 Series:
A degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.
A combination of education and experience. Courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Archeologist – 0193 Series:
Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:
Related Curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements above (including archeological field school).
Combination of Education and Experience -College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education.
Experience -Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project.
To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of: (1) Evaluating National Register nominations for locally, statewide, or nationally significant properties. (2) Collaborating among the National Park Service, Federal and state agencies, Tribal governments, state and local governments, or preservation organizations on National Register actions. (3) Serving as subject matter expert on National Register criteria, procedures, and processes. You must include hours per week worked.
