The 28 United Nations (UN) organizations present in Senegal, with approximately 2,000 staff, will occupy the new United Nations House in Diamniadio, 40 km from Dakar. This 56,000 m2 building complex, located on a surface corresponding to 28 football fields, will become a symbol of multilateralism in West Africa. In addition to the UN offices in Senegal, the UN House will host the UN regional and sub-regional offices responsible for the Sahel, West Africa and Central Africa.
This project of the United Nations House in Senegal is part of the reform initiative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, the Efficiency Agenda, which aims to improve the quality of services, facilitated by the principles of client-oriented services, with a view to efficient provision of common services to all Entities and persons resident in the United Nations House of Diamniadio.
Considering UNICEF Senegal CO’s role as the hosting agency of the Independent Project Unit (IPU), the entity that will run the UN House in Senegal and the fact that Senegal CO is now designated as the lead agency for the Common Back Office (CBO), additional technical expertise and managerial leadership was necessary not only for the CBO but also for the CO. The post of Supply Manager is a new position created to strengthen the capacity of the Senegal CO to undertake large volumes of contracts required to make the IPU and the UN House fully up and running and to deal with the
additional complexity driven by the CBO responsibility in the CO and the strategic Supply expectations at the CO. The increasing dimension of Operations and the level of complexity characterized by the new UN House requirements, appeals for a stronger leadership and solid operational support to All UNICEF staff (IPU and CO) to ensure appropriate use of resources in compliance with organizational rules and regulations.
