Chemonics International, a US-based international development consulting firm seeks a Supply Chain Governance (Objective 3) Director for the anticipated USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora (Better Supply, Better Health) activity to be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This activity aims to strengthen supply chain and pharmaceutical services to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities and will work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both USAID-procured health commodities and those procured through national/local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems, including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems.

The Supply Chain Governance Director will report to the Deputy Chief of Party and lead the project objectives related to Objective 3: Tanzania’s health supply chain and pharmaceutical management governance structures foster stakeholder engagement, effectively manage resources, and utilize public and private partnerships where needed, to improve performance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for establishing and strengthening coordination mechanisms that provide supply chain oversight and decision making and that improve commodity availability and supply chain functionality
  • Support the development of policies, SOPs, tools, and systems and further partnerships with private sector
  • Develop and execute innovative sustainability strategies

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public health, supply chain management, institutional development, business management, finance, or related field or minimum or 10 years in related professional experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on supply chain/pharmaceutical management projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Experience working in Tanzania and deep knowledge of geo-political, ethnic, cultural, and other considerations affecting programming in Tanzania and the region is required
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Fluency in English required, Swahili desirable
