UNDP Tanzania is currently implementing Blue economy Project in both Mainland and Zanzibar ‘Raising the Blue Flag “Lifting the lives of women and youth in the coastal communities in Tanzania”
The purpose of this project is to uplift the lives of women and youth in the coastal communities in selected sites in the United Republic of Tanzania (Zanzibar and Mainland). It involves providing demand-driven solutions to challenges in traditional fishing, seaweed farming, eco-tourism optimization, and unlocking the blue economy’s potential for livelihoods while ensuring conservation of coastal ecosystems. The strategy focuses on wealth creation through value addition and modern technologies. It contributes to UNDP’s SP Moonshot targets by aiding people in moving out of multidimensional poverty, providing youth employment, clean energy mix and offering renewed hope and stability. The success of this initiative is premised on enlisting and enhancing public-private sector investment in the blue economy sector. This initiative will contribute to the overall Tanzania’ blue economy goal of enabling local communities to harness and benefit from sustainable blue economy development. The initiative will also support the adoptions of technologies for countering marine waste and storing and processing of marine products (e.g., fish, seaweed, etc). These technologies will target to increase efficiency, effectiveness, productivity and promote renewable energy (energy mix) in the coastal communities of Tanzania. The Machui Aqua-Culture Centre in Tanga under the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries was established in the financial year 2013/14, the aim was to start producing seeds of sea fish, crabs, and sea cucumbers and serve through all coastal regions in Tanzania. Other aquatic life development activities are managed by the Centre such as fish farming, seaweed farming, crab breeding, sea cucumber farming, artemia production in salt mines. The centre to date has provided fish farming education in all districts of Tanga region only. There existing strategies and plans are to improve the facility to be able to produce seeds as well as to provide education to groups that grow seaweed to start adding value and to establish small factories to make seaweed products….more details on TOR Interested suppliers must submit their offer directly in the system as instructed in the solicitation document, following the instructions in the available user guide.
