Organization Mission
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean is one of WHO’s 6 regional offices around the world. It serves the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, which comprises 21 Member States and occupied Palestinian territory (including East Jerusalem), with a population of nearly 679 million people.
Context
With WHO’s support, many hospitals in the Eastern Mediterranean Region are collecting antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance data, but much of it remain underutilized. By volunteering, you will help transform raw data into actionable insights that can guide clinical practice and public health decisions.
This assignment gives you the opportunity to apply your R programming and data analysis skills to a real-world global health challenge. You will also learn from WHO experts and collaborate with professionals across the region, enhancing your experience in AMR and public health data systems.
Key Responsibilities
The three online volunteers will work under the guidance of AMR/IPC Unit Medical Officer, WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, and willl :
Design one-page infographics summarizing AMR-related indicators for EMR countries using data from sources such as TrACSS, GLASS, JEE, and WASH.
Develop a user-friendly dashboard that can be embedded on the WHO EMRO website to track country and regional progress over time.
Create charts, icons, and layouts that communicate health findings in a visually engaging and accessible way.
Share editable source files and final PDF versions of all designs.
Collaborate virtually with WHO focal points to ensure accuracy, branding alignment, and smooth integration into EMRO platforms.
Deliverables:
– Develop a one-page infographic summarizing AMR-related indicators for the EMR countries using data from TrACSS, GLASS, JEE), the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for WASH, and the monitoring framework for the Global Strategy on IPC.
– Develop a dashboard—which can then be embedded to EMRO webpage—to organize these data at the regional level and track them over years for each country
– Design visually engaging charts, icons, and layouts to communicate key findings at regional and country level clearly and accessibly.
– Provide editable source files and final PDF versions of all infographics.
Required Skills and Experience
Strong skills in data visualization and infographic design.
Proficiency with tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Power BI, or similar.
Ability to interpret and visualize health or statistical data.
Familiarity with AMR-related data systems (TrACSS, GLASS, JEE, WASH) is an asset.
Detail-oriented, collaborative, and able to work effectively online.
