Job Summary:

The College of Dentistry is currently seeking a Surgical Dental Assistant to provide chair side assisting to faculty, residents, and students during surgical procedures as assigned or as needed.
Duties can include but not limited to:

• Consent patients
• Review medical history
• Start IV’s Draw Blood for PRF and spin down/prepare for the procedure
• Set up/break down room
• Monitor patients’ vitals during sedation. Monitor patients for adverse outcomes during IV sedation. Administer medications
• Pass instruments
• Assist during any medical emergencies that may occur during or after procedures
• Provide post-operative instructions and escort patients following surgery
• Order/stock inventory
• Take radiographs, impressions, intraoral scans
• Seat patients as needed Student liaison Nursing back-up.

IEBC (Internal Employee Being Considered).

Skills /Knowledge/Abilities:

Knowledge of proper infection control technique, medical and dental terminology, MS Office, housestaff scheduling system, EPIC (Patient & Records Management Program), Expanded Duties Dental Assisting Certification, BLS Certification, and KY Radiograph certification.

None.

Preferred Education/Experience:

Surgical or dental assistant experience preferred. Experience assisting with sedation and working in the operating room environment highly preferred.
