A bit about the role
The Sustainability Officer is responsible for implementing education and improvement programs and projects that enhance and promote sustainability concepts and practices within Council, the community and businesses.
The roles will deliver on two core areas;
- The development, promotion and evaluation of sustainability events and behaviour change programs
- Supporting programs that relate to carbon accounting and organisational emissions reductions.
What you’ll deliver
- Engaging with a broad range of stakeholders including residents, local schools, businesses, and community groups to foster positive sustainability outcomes. You will design and delivery of Council’s community sustainability behaviour change and education programs and initiatives.
- Engaging with Council employees to increase and embed sustainable procurement within the organisation, including an annual audit of Council’s sustainable spend.
- Creating a wide variety of targeted sustainability communication and education materials including articles, e-newsletter, brochures, and website content.
- Monitor and implement Council’s emissions, energy and water tracking programs, including supporting stakeholders in accessing these programs.
- Deliver change management practices relating to carbon accounting and environmental data management.
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrated experience in delivering environmental behaviour change and education programs and initiatives.
- Experience / understanding of sustainable procurement practices.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage with a diverse range of people.
- Proven stakeholder engagement including sound influencing skills.
- Experience with data management, auditing and report writing.
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Project Management, Engineering disciplines, Sustainability or related field and subsequent post graduate experience and / or relevant industry experience
