GGGI is seeking a Junior Sustainable Landscape Consultant based in Quito, Ecuador. The Junior Sustainable Landscape Consultant will assist in the structuring of various environmental conservation strategies in the amazon jungle of Ecuador. The Consultant will work in an interdisciplinary team and will support the engagement with stakeholders and the implementation of the sustainable landscapes and conservation agreements, as well as financial analysis to achieve those conservation goals, under the leadership of GGGI staff members.

These in-country programs, together with global products and services, focus on delivering results through an integrated approach of evidence-based green growth planning and implementation aligned to countries’ development priorities.
The achievement of Ecuador’s NDC targets requires a substantial increase in the volume of public and private, national and international climate finance invested in the country.
As a result, the Government of Ecuador, under the leadership of MEF and MAATE, has embarked on an ambitious effort to increase the mobilization of international climate finance and implementation of innovative sustainable finance instruments to support a climate resilient and low-carbon development of the economy.
The objective of this consultancy is to support the analysis, documentation, design, construction, and implementation of various sustainable/green financial instruments in Ecuador.
Specific Objectives:
Assist the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition (MAATE) in developing, structuring, and planning environmental conservation strategies in the amazon jungle.
Designing the monitoring and evaluation procedure to comply with the sustainability commitments of a complex sustainable finance transaction.
Prepare a Work Plan of the activities to undertake under the assignment.
The Work Plan should include a timeline of main activities, methodology, milestones, validation meetings, final deliverables description and the scheduling of capacity building workshops.
Review of current conservation strategies applied in the amazon and provide a detailed report on the optimal conservation strategies for about 800 thousand ha of jungle.
Support the organization of meetings with relevant stakeholders depending on the need from the project and/or the counterpart. The consultant is responsible for writing meeting minutes for all meetings in which the consultant participates in, as well as recollect the signature of approval of the minutes.
Read and revise documents relevant to the environmental conservation strategy in question. The consultant will be asked to produce executive summary reports and PowerPoint presentations for government authorities based on the documentation shared with the consultant.
Assist MAATE in all tasks assigned by the authorities regarding the successful execution of the sustainable finance instruments in question.
Prepare reports that include the plans focusing on how to achieve he environmental conservation commitments.
Provide technical assistance as required related but not limited to, negotiation, analysis, recommendations on the conservation strategies to be applied to meet the sustainability commitments of the operation.
Technical visits to the selected places for information gathering and stakeholder engagement with local native communities.
Provide technical assistance as required.
Support the growth and development of green finance products.
Systematize all collected information, annexes, meeting minutes, etc. and consolidate it in a Final Report.
Coordination and compliance:
The consultant must Sign various confidentiality agreements with the Republic of Ecuador.
All relevant technical papers, reports, and other documents prepared from the start to the end of the assignment shall be attached to the final Report and must be included in a digital repository.
The consultant will make the best use of both primary and secondary sources of information to develop activities defined under the contract objective.
The consultant selected must dedicate 100% of his/her time to this process. Therefore, it is forbidden to consider other consultancies during the contract period.
This position will require a full-time on-site presence at the MAATE.
The consultant will work closely with GGGI consultants and staff to ensure the goals of this consultancy, and he/she will also be responsible for reporting their progress to the GGGI supervisor.
The consultancy budget stated below includes the costs of transportation and accommodation, there is no additional budget that will cover required travel for the assignment.
Master’s Degree or equivalent combination of work experience in environmental science, forestry, engineering, biology, economics, sociology, or related areas.
At least 5 years of relevant work experience in sustainable landscape or sustainable forestry projects.
Prior experience working and or designing conservation strategies in the amazon jungle is desired.
Knowledge of the current sustainable landscape amazon conservations efforts in the Ecuadorian context.
Prior experience working in conservation projects related to forest sustainability is desired.
Environmental conservation negotiation experience is required.
Full English proficiency (C1 or TOEFL) is required.
Knowledge of environmental conservation mechanisms in the Ecuadorian context.
Skills in working with multidisciplinary groups.
Negotiation, promotion, and conflict resolution skills.
Syntaxy and redaction proficiency.
Meeting Facilitation Skills required.
