Sustainable Landscape Management and Policy Researcher

Overview

Sustainable Landscape Planning and Policy Researcher supports green growth planning and other sustainable development initiatives. The job holder is to formulate and perform activities on translating policy and regulatory framework into methodology and analysis related to regulation, permit, or guidelines standard issued by the Indonesian government, such as (but not limited to): climate change, mitigation-adaptation, carbon, green growth, peat management-restoration, strategic environment assessment, social forestry, agroforestry policy, forest management, social land tenure and all of land-based and jurisdictional landscape approach including land and seascape integration.

Duties and responsibilities

Research:

Sustainable
Landscape Planning and Policy Researcher analyzes and examines policy
regulation at global, national, and local levels to develop frameworks, tools,
and instruments related to ongoing as well as future research activities. The
details of activities include.

  • Design research method,
    leading thematic data collection.
  • Provide analysis,
    planning, and recommendation based on the relevant topics of sustainable
    landscape management, green growth, climate change mitigation-adaptation, and
    gender sensitive analysis.
  • Develop output report
    for ongoing research activities and related processes.
  • Develop policy
    recommendations based on the research results through policy briefs, working
    papers, or other publication materials.
  • Lead output material for
    publishing written documents Involve in project-related other researchers as
    supporting as requested by Theme Leader.

Administration
and Management:

  • Provide documents (PPT,
    Work Plan, timeline, and reporting).
  • Collaborate and provide
    guidance to partner colleagues in project planning and site monitoring.
  • Contribute to managing
    daily multiple projects and research activities.
  • Contribute to project
    planning and evaluation at project closing.

Partnership
and networking:

  • Attend meetings and
    visit the partner to discuss the project activities with the leaders and to
    explore new activities.
  • Collaborate with local
    and national government and other institutions to collect data and information
    on policy regulation based on the project activities.
  • Attend and present
    project results in meetings, workshops, and seminars as requested.

Other
Responsibilities

  • Identify and mitigate
    potential risks within your work area.
  • Take reasonable care of
    own occupational health and safety and that of others as obliged by
    CIFOR-ICRAF’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and cooperate with
    CIFOR-ICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and
    safety provisions of relevant Country laws.
  • Participate in (insert
    team as appropriate) projects as may be required.

Education, knowledge and experience

• Minimum education bachelor’s degree (S-1), preferably master’s degree (M. Sc) in natural resources management, environmental management, forestry, geography, land management, water resources management, rural development, or other closely related social, environmental, land and forest policy and planning discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant work.
• Experience in working with research and government institutions.
• Contribution in the process of national/subnational regulation development e.g., PP/Perda/Pergub/Perbup is valuable experience.

Terms and conditions

• This is a local position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.

• The initial appointment will be for 1 (one) year, inclusive of a three-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.

• The duty station will be in Bogor, Indonesia.
