INTRODUCTION TO GGGI

The activities and methodology that the Consultant must comply with and complete within an estimated period of 93 working days, are detailed below:

General responsibilities:

• Present a Work Plan detailing the curriculum to be taught, activities to be carried out, and schedule to follow to strengthen capacities in all the topics defined in all the selected communities (Product 1).
• Plan and coordinate the logistics to deliver the training with the technical team of AMEXCID’s “Sembrando Vida” Project and with GGGI’s Forestry Senior Associate in El Salvador and reflect it in the Work Plan.
• Prepare and submit the training materials for review by the AMEXCID and GGGI technical teams.
• Provide theoretical-practical training to strengthen the capacities of 200 people, including technicians and beneficiaries of the “Sembrando Vida” Project, on landscape restoration and resilient production technologies.

The training will be carried out in four (4) locations that are already defined and distributed at the national level, as shown in the following table:

The order of execution of the capacity-building activities in the proposed locations will be suggested on the Consultant’s proposal, for later agreement with GGGI and AMEXCID’s staff.

The planning and execution of the training events must at least consider the following items:

• Training events will be grouped by modules, with all locations receiving the same training topic in a given period of time.
• Each training topic will have a minimum duration of 1 day (4 hours) and a maximum of 2 days (8 hours).
• The gender approach must be included in all the topics.
• The training events must include participatory activities.
• The training events must include refreshments for all participants, with priority given to local producers or suppliers providing them.
• Call of participants in each location and identification of facilities to carry out the training events must be coordinated with staff from AMEXCID’s “Sembrando Vida” Project.
• Entry and exit surveys must be conducted to measure the level of understanding gained in each topic.
• Reports must be submitted one week after training events are completed (products 2-to-6), detailing the activities carried out and incorporating evidence, such as attendance lists, the list of teaching materials, and photographs, among others. These reports must be addressed to the Cooperation Manager at the Mexican Embassy in El Salvador and to GGGI’s Forestry Senior Associate in El Salvador for review and approval by both organizations.
• A Final Report, including the systematization of the consultancy, must be submitted one week after the execution of the final training event (Final Product). This report must be addressed to the Cooperation Manager at the Mexican Embassy in El Salvador and to GGGI’s Forestry Senior Associate in El Salvador for review and approval by both organizations.
• All reports are a requirement to execute payments as scheduled, in accordance with the provisions of the Contract.

The topics to be included in the training are the following:

1. Module 1: Forest landscape restoration using native species

1.1. Basic concepts of landscape restoration: meaning, objectives, implications

1.2. Identification of native species for forest landscape restoration

1.3. Agroforestry systems (AFS) as a strategy for restoration (AFS with annual crops, AFS with permanent crops, silvopastoral systems)

2. Module 2: Establishment of forest nurseries

2.1. Pest and disease management plans

2.2. Nutritional management plans

2.3. Substrate preparation

1.1. Endemic plants

2.1 Management of seedbeds

3. Module 3: Integrated pest and disease management

3.1. Control strategies and methods (cultural, mechanical, physical, biological, and chemical control options)

3.2. Sampling techniques for pest evaluation

4. Module 4: Agroecological management of soil fertility

4.1. Formation, degradation, and regeneration of soils

4.2. Organic matter, minerals, and their balance for healthy soil

4.3. Soil-forming microorganisms

4.4. Regenerative soil management in different production systems

4.5. Calculation of fertilization for the main crops (corn, common beans, tomato, pepper, plantain, papaya, and mango)

5. Module 5: Practices and techniques for soil and water conservation

The Consultant is expected to possess the following qualifications, professional experience and skills:

Qualifications:

• University professional graduated in Agronomy, Forestry, or Environmental sciences or related careers. A postgraduate degree or a specialization in any of these areas is highly desirable.
• Fluency in Spanish.
• Salvadoran nationality or with a work permit in El Salvador.

Professional experience:

• Minimum work experience of 5 years.
• Proven experience in providing training aimed at farmers and technical staff.
• Solid understanding of the topics included in the capacity building activities, with a focus on landscape restoration and climate change resilience.

Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication capacities, including strong interpersonal communication skills and use of appropriate language.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Analytical and report writing skills.

Other requirements:

• The Consultant must travel by his/her own means.
• The Consultant must have the ICT / audiovisual equipment needed.

Applicants must include the following in their application package:

• A cover letter of no more than 2 pages demonstrating how the candidate’s qualifications meet job requirements.
• A resume describing (at a minimum) education, recent experience, and professional achievements.
• An economic offer, including a detailed budget separating professional fees from expenses related to training events (at least transport, rooms, and refreshments for the participants).
