The company has grown rapidly in recent years and has ambitious plans for the future.The newly created System Engineer position is a unique opportunity to work on leading projects within aerospace industry (Aerial Target / UAS platforms) with exposure to cutting edge aerospace technology.What will I be doing?Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimising systems and payloads for a family of unmanned Target Aircraft, used to represent various airborne threats.Duties will include:
- Support V and V Engineering Lead in Test and Trial Operations at Ashford with occasional overseas travel.
- Perform systems integration, including hardware, software, and mechanical components, ensuring seamless operation of avionics, propulsion, electrical, and payloads.
- Analyse and decompose system requirements, translating them into detailed technical specifications for subsystems and component design
- Writing and reviewing documentation, including design documentation, test and trial plans, test results and flight trial reports.
- Develop and maintain system architecture and documentation, including block diagrams, interface control documents (ICDs), and systems engineering plans.
- Support the resolution of technical issues during development, testing, and certification processes, providing guidance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Participate in risk assessments and safety analysis
- Participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and ensuring that design and development processes adhere to the QinetiQ BMS and Design procedure.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the System Engineering/Design Process
- Ensure a high standard of test specifications and test reports are produced throughout the V&V process. Support new product designs and major product change testing to ensure alignment to industry best practice and meeting customer requirements.
What do I need?You will be degree qualified in an Aerospace or Systems Engineering related technical discipline, or have equivalent relevant experience.You’ll have experience in a mission critical environment and a breadth of knowledge of engineering disciplines (mechanical/electrical/aero).We also ask that you:
- have experience in testing, evaluation, and acceptance of products within ISO9001 environment
- are able to produce inspection and testing plans and coordinate testing activities with stakeholders including design, production and field services
- are able to produce trials plans and coordinate target trialshave knowledge of aircraft systems architecture (e.g., avionics, propulsion)
- are aware of the systems engineering thinking principles, ability to apply skills to design, integrate, and manage complex systems over their life cycles.
- have experience with requirements management and principles of configuration management.
- have knowledge of flight control systems, navigation systems, as applied to unmanned target systems
- have experience with verification processes
- have strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
- have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
- are competent in technical report writing and presentations using MS Office
