If that’s you, we invite you to join our collaborative IT team as a Systems Engineer in the Microsoft Server Support Group, where you can personally contribute to life-changing research by defining, implementing, and managing the technical solutions required to meet the needs of Auburn University. This position will be responsible for managing resources in a VMware environment, including but not limited to servers, storage, networking as well as vulnerability management and third party application support.

Working onsite is a requirement of the job. May work up to 2 days hybrid remote in local area with supervisor’s approval.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates with various groups and troubleshoots problems and provides resolution
  • Provides Microsoft Server operating system configuration and maintenance for a number of virtual servers in an Active Directory domain environment
  • Using industry standard monitoring tools to identify and remediate security vulnerabilities on an on-going basis
  • Works with VMware and Azure platforms
  • Works with software vendors to provide support for third-party applications hosted on Windows servers
  • Defines and documents best practices and supports procedures related for server support group

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications This position is advertised at two levels:

Associate Systems Engineer (MA45):
High school diploma and 8 years of relevant experience OR
Associate’s degree and 4 years of experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 0 years of experience.
The salary grade for this level is $45,300 to $72,500
Typical starting salary for this level is between $54,367 and $63,433
Systems Engineer (MA46):
High school diploma and 11 years of relevant experience OR
Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience.
The salary grade for this level is $55,300 to $94,000
Typical starting salary for this level is between $68,200 and $81,100
Area of required Experience:
Relevant IT experience in the administration of distributed computer systems
Salary is commensurate with relevant education and experience.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities
  • Understanding of server infrastructure and operating systems.
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot vulnerabilities in software and hardware.
  • Ability to implement software and upgrade firmware.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems in a virtual environment
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Knowledge of Linux Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of Virtual Machine Provisioning, Management and Backup
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP communication protocols, firewalls, networking, common service ports, and best security practices
  • Knowledge of the provisioning and management of Microsoft Servers and Services
  • Knowledge of information technology principles and applications, IT system management methodologies, and new technologies
