Role Purpose:
To work in partnership with class teacher to create a positive learning environment for Very Young Learners and to support the wider aim of British Council and its cultural relation mission.

Role Context:
British Council Hong Kong Teaching Centre is a large centre, teaching a range of kindergarten, primary, and secondary young learner courses in five locations across Hong Kong. We are recruiting experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated teaching assistant to join our team. Young learners make up approximately 80% of our student numbers and we are looking for teacher assistants who are dedicated and enjoy working with children.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

To assist the teacher with material preparation and setting up the classroom.
To support the teacher by supervising the children and reinforcing class rules during lessons.
To model appropriate behavior and encourage student participation.
To manage the customer flow and to direct customers questions and feedback to the right people.
To ensure that the following policies are followed to standard:
– Safeguarding
– Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
– Health and Safety

Requirements:
Communicates clearly and effectively with good communication skills in Cantonese
Able to understand and follow simple English instructions
Some knowledge of basic functional classroom language
HKDSE / GCSE or equivalent is preferred
Communicates clearly and effectively with good communication skills in both Cantonese and English

Role specific knowledge and experience:
Essential
Enjoy working with children
Experience of taking care of young children

Desirable
Experience of working with children
Able to work on Saturdays and / or Sundays

Further Information:
Pay Band: Hourly-paid (HKD75 per hour)

Contract Type: 1-year fixed contract renewable
Location: Hong Kong
Condition of Employment: Local Direct Hire
