This position is located in the Visitors Services Section within the Department of Global Communications at UN Headquarters in New York. Visitors Services encompasses guided tours, public inquiries and the speakers’ bureau/briefings at United Nations Headquarters in New York. Each year nearly half a million people from around the world experience the UN Visitor Centre. The Treasury Clerk supports the Guided Tours Operation as a member of the Administrative Unit and reports to the Senior Administrative Assistant. This temporary position is available effective immediately through 31 July 2024, with the possibility of an extension.

Responsibilities

Within delegation of authority, the Treasury Clerk will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Sell tour tickets accurately and efficiently.
  • Greet visitors in a professional manner and provide current information pertaining to the availability of tours, costs of tours and general information about the UN, either at the ticket desk or where needed, including off-site/outside.
  • Maintain clear communications with other Cashiers, Tour Guides and Tour Coordinators to keep the operation of the ticket desk running smoothly.
  • Secures and records revenue within the ticketing system in accordance to UN Accounting/Auditing Rules and Regulations.
  • Responsible for balancing daily close-out reports and depositing revenue collected at bank.
  • Assist in the recording of daily and monthly financial reports as requested when working in office.
  • Assists in the verification of receipt and accuracy of reports, etc. to ensure compliance with relevant financial rules and regulations.
  • Follow–up and assist with account receivables, charge-backs and collection letters when working in office.
  • Provides general office support to help ensure the smooth functioning of the unit and section.
  • Performs other administrative duties as needed.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of two years of experience in banking/cashiering, accounting, bookkeeping or related area is required. Experience in processing cash transactions with a Point-of-Sale system is required. Experience using Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel is desirable. At least two (2) years of experience in general office support or related area is required.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
